Will Hogan is a writer, author, and sub-editor (again) >>>>>>>>

I’ve written for magazines, journals and websites since 1999 – yes, the previous century. This covers words and ideas for everything from Channel 4 to niche sub-culture titles such as Sleazenation. Now I write books, screenplays and copy. Just to confuse things, I also write under my full name, William Hogan.

Let’s have a look at what I’ve been up to recently, eh readers?

Sub-editing

I’m sub-editing PUSS PUSS magazine (the actual magazine, not the website) from the AW25/26 issue onward. For banal reference, I used to sub-edit this cat-inspired fashion magazine in its first years of life, and now, a decade later, I’m back with my Sharpie.

TV Series

BASTARDS OF HARLEM

Between Los Angeles, New York and London, I’ve spent just over nine years writing the life story of an incredible man, and someone who I now count as a good friend – Nicky Corello.

Without divulging too much, the show is about a retired New York gangster who in later life had a Hollywood acting career. It charts the rise and fall of a small, but highly influential multi-racial gang that outwitted the NYPD, outplayed the five Mafia families – and rewrote the rules of organised crime. Currently it's under the wing of UNITED AGENTS with co-screenwriter Christopher Bell.

The TV series Bastards of Harlem is protected under U.S. copyright law. Which means I finally get to use this symbol © and sound all official about it.

Non-fiction

EYEBALL CARDS – THE ART OF BRITISH CB RADIO CULTURE – William Hogan & David Titlow

The book is a written and visual history of a forgotten and misunderstood British subculture – CB Radio.

It’s published by Four Corners, and available domestically in most art bookshops as well as Waterstones, WH Smith, etc. and has been sold in the TATE Modern. It’s also available globally, notably in the colossal Walmart chain in the US, and Barnes & Noble.

The book was featured in major national news outlets such as the Guardian, Vice, and BBC Radio 4, as well as specialist arts’ publications.

Outlets: Amazon, Waterstones, Foyles, etc.

Press: The Guardian, The Wire, Vice, Creative Review, British Journal of Photography, It's Nice That, Apollo and Hyperallergic among many others.

Documentary

Life on Air is a documentary based on the book, with a short film that won Official Selection at the NYC Short Documentary Film Festival 2021, The Chagrin Documentary Film Fest 2021, Derby Film festival 2020, Lift-off Global Network London, and premiered on Directors Notes.

Fiction

EVERYTHING AFTER TOMORROW is a book I’m currently writing (well, for about a decade but who’s counting?) and almost ready to pitch.

It’s 1998. But for teenager Ellen, time stopped somewhere around 1987.

Isolated in a remote house in Somerset by Clara – her controlling and mentally ill mother – Ellen navigates her rigidly-structured existence by mapping the ‘weather systems’ of her mother’s erratic moods and by keeping a diary of the ‘energy forms’ in a home moored firmly in the past.

But when a visitor, Thom – a 12-year-old boy seemingly from the future – arrives at the edge of the garden and the periphery of Ellen’s world, all three begin hurtling inexorably to the harsh reckoning of the present day.
